Founded in June 2008, SwirlAtlanta serves as an educational, community-building organization tailored to addressing all relevant issues currently facing people of biracial or multiracial descent. Our key missions are to ensure a safe haven for people of multiracial descent, to provide educational, interactive programs which encourage conversation about multiracial identity and to host fundraisers and special events that work toward developing a larger multicultural community.
As the birthplace of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and a driving force of the Civil Rights Movement, Jen and Corina hope that SwirlAtlanta will draw from Dr. King’s vision, and become a place for all people to experience diversity, inclusiveness, and acceptance. It is our organization’s commitment to build a sustainable multicultural society that meets the cultural, intellectual, and familial needs of its racially mixed population. Ideally, we would like to see this same commitment spread to local schools, churches, and other community centers. SwirlAtlanta maintains that all families should have the chance to raise their children in a multicultural environment. Our future scheduled programs will focus on generating community, building conversation about racial and cultural identities, emotional resolutions and embracing universal personhood.
We encourage anyone and everyone interested in fostering an environment of racial and cultural inclusiveness to participate in our fundraisers, lectures, and outings! Feel free to contact Jen Bhagia-Lewis or Corina Morris of SwirlAtlanta with further questions on how to get involved as well as ideas and answers to general questions.
Here’s to change and community!
